The Tree Hotel
oxfordshire

The Tree hotel, snuggled in Oxford’s leafy Iffley Village, has quiz nights, ladies’ nights and curry nights, but offers something extra special on a Sunday- an international buffet that truly lives up to its name. International in every sense of the word, the sheer variety is enough to make your mouth water before you’ve even started eagerly piling up your plate.

This is a real dining extravaganza, with a buffet and carvery offering a carefully chosen selection of authentic dishes from around the world. Whether you're a carnivore, a fish lover or a vegetarian, and whether you have a particular penchant for a classic English roast with roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and vegetables, an Indian curry with poppadoms and lime pickle, Chinese noodles with prawn crackers or an Italian pasta oozing with cheese, your tastes will be more than satisfied. If you’re feeling adventurous, mix and match them together- these dishes enhance and complement each other perfectly. Highlights include the beautifully poached fish with fragrant saffron butter and the delicious Saag Gosht (lamb and spinach curry).

Before all that, you could start off with soup and/or salads- even these are impressively wide-ranging, with ingredients including pineapple, seafood and bacon as well as classics such as mozzarella and tomato.

If you still have some room afterwards, a dessert of particular note (from yet another wide-ranging list) is the white chocolate and amaretto soufflé, which looked and tasted exquisite. A perfect choice for chocoholics.

You can even choose where to eat it all- for a special occasion there’s the restaurant area, on a relaxed Sunday afternoon you can chill out in the bar area, and on a sunny day there’s the lovely secluded garden and patio, which, with its play area, is ideal for families.

It may be a cliché to say there's something for everyone, but nowhere can that saying be more true than at the Tree hotel. Make sure you set aside a Sunday, bring your family and friends, and turn up hungry so you can try as many dishes as possible. You'll be filling up your plate again and again (that’s the beauty of a buffet, after all).

Managing director Kavita Pal stresses the importance of keeping customers happy (especially during a recession) by offering good quality service, good value for money and ‘a varied selection of high quality food.’ Tick, tick and tick.

An international buffet may be an ambitious concept but here it is a unique and memorable triumph
